Jobs, Jobs, Jobs

How is it that when we get a call from a customer, that we get people telling us; “I called your competitor and they said it would be 2 weeks before they could get an electrician out to us”,? That’s not good for the customer but it tells us that there is a large market out there. A market so large that our competitor is too busy to meet the demand of the communities we work in. Our company is in a good position to begin branding our name into the communities and helping the growing customer base in our country.

Fear not

Fear is a motivator or, it can be. You have to decide whether or not what to do with it. All businesses face trepidation or fear of what you can’t see in the future. If you really break it down it comes down to faith…trust. You can’t only trust in your hard work and diligence, although you must have that. No, it comes down to destiny and faith in God. He is the maker of your heart and He is the one in whom our destiny resides. A man plans his ways but the Lord directs his paths. Keep your head up when it comes to business. Some days are good and some days are bad however, when you look back at the plans you made and the successes and failures over the years you can see the fingerprint of our God.

Keep working, keep doing due diligence it will work out if you keep trying and working hard.

Commercial Projects

Commercial projects are a part of our repertoire. We work on projects like large retailers and convenience stores. We install integrated Automated Logic systems that are centrally controlled by a mother corporation like EMS. These systems include sensors for items such as; lighting, air-conditioning and refrigeration.

The goal for these systems is to cut costs on electricity. This may seem a little over the top however, some retailers have hundreds of locations that are either owned by the corporation or franchised. This is potentially millions in savings over a several year period.

Another popular item is suspended lighting systems that are centrally controlled. Most retailers are installing them at every location. Next time you go into a large retailer…look up. You will see a lighting grid above the produce and sometimes even in the main entryway.

Answering the call(s)

It is ever so important to be available to your customers. One thing I’ve discovered in over 30 years of managing businesses is, that you must be available to your paying customers and some who aren’t. In most cases you have an opportunity to make a profit. For example about a month ago, I began getting calls from an elderly gentleman who kept having one of his circuit breakers trip. He would call day after day asking for help. Luckily, one of our service electricians lived literally right next door to the man. Our employee would run over and reset the breaker time after time. The problem? a 1500 watt stand alone heater. His wife would plug it into the nearest outlet and inevitably, boom, boom, out go the lights. Finally he’d had enough. Once again he called once more trying to remedy the problem without fixing it and said “go ahead”, meaning for me to go ahead with the plan to install a new 20 amp dedicated circuit I had been trying to convince him of. Every time he called It was annoying but, it eventually became work for our company.

Solar Panels and your home

Many new homes today are being sold now with Solar Panels. What that means for some new homeowners is, that you now have a home that you won’t need to upgrade the electrical system. For everyone else it means, the way to save money on your monthly electrical bill is to install a Solar panel system for your home. It can be done with lower costs by using JB Electric with savings that you can agree with. Overhead at our company is much lower than most competitors so that means our overall cost to you is less.

Jacuzzis and Hot Tubs

Whether you buy a new or used Jacuzzi we can install it for you at a cost that is affordable.

Outdoor spas and hot tubs

Electrical installations for outdoor spas and hot tubs must comply with Parts I and II of Art. 680 along with the special provisions included for outdoor spas and hot tubs in Part IV [680.40]. The special provisions in Part IV for outdoor installations are:

 • Flexible connections and cord-and-plug connections that meet certain criteria are allowed [680.42(A)].
 • Bonding through the use of metal-to-metal contact on a common frame or base is permitted. The metal bands that secure wooden staves are not required to be bonded [680.42(B)].

Wiring to an underwater light must comply with 680.23 or 680.33.

A storable pool is typically purchased by the user and not professionally installed. This may seem like something that should not concern electricians. However, the NEC has requirements for storable pools that must be followed when making any electrical installation in the vicinity of a storable pool. Parts I and III of Art. 680 apply to storable pools [680.30].

Fig. 1. Per 680.32, GFCI protection is required for all receptacles that supply the electrical equipment used with storable pools.

A Commercial Jacuzzi has to have a GFCI breaker and a shut off at least 5′ from the unit. The shut off must be clearly marked.

GFCI protection must be provided for the outlet supplying a self-contained indoor spa or hot tub, or supplying a packaged spa or hot tub equipment assembly, or any field-assembled spa or hot tub. Because this rule applies to all outlets and not just receptacle outlets, a hard-wired indoor spa or hot tub requires GFCI protection [680.44].

Fig. 3. Additional GFCI protection is not required for a spa or hot tub with integral GFCI protection.

Additional GFCI protection isn’t required for:

 • A listed self-contained spa or hot tub or a listed packaged spa or hot tub assembly marked to indicate that integral GFCI protection has been provided for electrical parts within the unit or assembly [680.44(A)] [ Fig. 3 ].
 • A field-assembled spa or hot tub rated 3-phase or that has a voltage rating greater than 250V, or a heater load above 50A [680.44(B)].
 • Equipment that supplies a combination pool/hot tub or spa assembly [680.44(C)].
